At Green Mountain Hounds, we pride ourselves on being an inclusive and welcoming community. Whether you're a seasoned hunter or new to the sport, you'll find a supportive and friendly environment where everyone is encouraged to learn, grow, and share in the adventure.
A day of hunting
We encourage riders of any discipline to join us for a day following our hounds. Your adventure begins by registering with our Hunt Secretary, Anna Paritsky, at greenmtnhounds@gmail.com. Anna will talk with you about your and your horse’s previous experience fox hunting. She will help you decide which group would be the best fit for you for the day, what to wear, and who you should check in with when you arrive at the hunt.
Riders should plan to arrive at the meet with time to connect with the Field Secretary, sign their waiver, pay their capping fee, and be mounted by 9:45am. The Master or representative will make announcements, introduce guests, and hounds will be released at 10am. The hounds are out for 1-1.5 hours in the spring and late summer. As they become more fit later in the season, hunting days will extend to 2-2.5 hours.
There is typically tailgating social time or a potluck lunch during the informal season. During formal season members take turns hosting the luncheon. Hunting is a unique sport, attracting members of all ages and backgrounds. We look forward to introducing you to our sport and welcoming you into our club.
Capping
Whether you are new to the sport or visiting from out of town, “capping” allows riders to participate in the day’s hunt without committing to a membership. Riders may cap up to three times in a season. If you are having a blast and hope to hunt more, we encourage you to join as a member. Previously submitted capping fees will be applied towards your membership.
